To help students learn about traditional Chinese festivals and use Putonghua in a relaxed atmosphere, the Putonghua Subject, together with the Chinese History Subject, Chinese Language Subject, National and Civic Education Group, held the “Mid-Autumn Festival Putonghua Fun Day” on the Mid-Autumn Festival. All activities throughout the day were conducted in Putonghua. The booth activities included “Mid-Autumn Spot the Difference”, “Mid-Autumn Jigsaw Puzzle”, “Houyi Shoots the Pinyin”, “Handmade Lanterns” and “Mid-Autumn Riddle Guessing”. Students who successfully completed two of the activities received a beautiful gift.
During the activities, students not only had great fun, but also learned about Mid-Autumn customs, legends and festival culture through spot-the-difference, puzzles, pinyin shooting, lantern making and riddle guessing. At the same time, through listening and speaking interaction in Putonghua, they improved their expression and communication skills. In conclusion, the Fun Day allowed students to experience and deepen their understanding of the meaning of the Mid-Autumn Festival amid laughter, including reunion, gratitude and blessings. It also enhanced their understanding of traditional Chinese culture and strengthened their sense of national identity, achieving the goal of learning through play.
